I estimate I get 50,000+ miles out of a stock shift coupler. If you are worried you should just buy an extra (and some extra bolts) and keep it in your spare parts box when you are on a road trip.
Clutch cables and front transmission mounts have given me way more trouble... |

Ok, thanks. Here's another question:
I removed the old coupler and changed the boot towards the front of the bus with this:
http://www.busdepot.com/211711183b
I have another boot like that, is the one that goes on the rod that goes into the transmission the same boot? The descriptions say "2 required per bus" but that boot looks a little different.
So in other words, are the two boots shown in this picture the same part number?
Also, I'm assuming my nose cone is leaking and that's why the trans side is wet, does that sound accurate or is there supposed to be fluid inside the boot on the trans side? I'm thinking not but thought I'd ask a stupid question anyway.
After searching I'm thinking this boot in fluxcap's pic is what I need, upper right, anyone know a part number on that? Mine is in decent shape, should I just wait and replace it when I reseal the trans if trans is leaking? That's where the fluid comes from, from end of that boot on the trans "hockey stick".
