May be less costly or more feasible to find or import a good set of case halves? _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA

Sure, but it's the matching original engine from my bus and the cases has been milled inside to accept the okrasa crankshaft... |

The link I provided to VW heritage was not for your specific clearance or engine, only that they are the only ones I have seen with oversize OD main bearings. My suggestion was to contact them and ask. _________________ ☮️ |

i believe RJE does a lot of custom bearings and could probably help you find an off-the-shelf if it exists: http://www.rockyjennings.com/ _________________ 84 Vanagon Westy, 1.9L, California raised but defected to Canada. |

If the block is a 1.9. I would look for a 2.1 (B) block. Much better then a 1.9. Can't be that hard to clearance the inside for rod clearance. Or have the block align bored to .50 .020. The one pc. thrust brg. is the down fall of the 1.9 engines. Thanks Rocky |

Hi
after some research I didn't find any main bearing std crankshaft - 0.25 case
so I decided to find a set of bearing 0.25 or 0.5 crankshaft - 0.25 or 0.5 case but it's the same, all is out of stock
So, if someone knows where I could find a set of these non standard bearing.... for pre 85 van
thank you for your help

Ther are comoanies that restore old engines as a specialty service.
Part of that task is to obtain the unobtainable, such as bearings. As a result they make their own.
I Would search out one of these companies. It probably won't be the cheapest bearing you ever purchased but you'll have what you need to continue your rebuild.
My Grandfather, born in the 1800's, was an avid auto buff and traveler in the Early 1900's.
He traveled quite a bit for work and often made cross country journey's before paved roads were common place.
He used to talk about fixing flats himself with an old hand air pump and tire irons, and he often mentioned carrying the equipment and supplies needed to pour new babbits while traveling.
Bearings used to be poured in place and even well oiled leather was used to get you back on the road. Spun a bearing? Pull off your belt and cut a chunk out of it to use as a bearing.
