Hello everyone,

I just found a "Barn Find" in Alabama...an original 1967 VW Empi GTV. Can anyone give me any info or validate how they can be authenticated? I have all the original owner manuals, engine number, etc...except, the original receipts which would have had the EMPI accessories package added to the car. I need help getting smart on this car. I really don't know a lot about them. Thanks!

The pieces sure do point to it being a GTV. I feel bad for being spoiled in california where most rust is found under the battery. I have 3 67's with no rust. Great find.

To be honest, this car looks like it has a few period EMPI accessories, but not near enough of them, nor in good enough condition to "prove" it as a real GTV. Objectively, anyone could have ordered those parts from The Catalog and bolted them on.

To certify it as a "Real" EMPI GTV, you're going to need the original VWOA window sticker delivered to Economotors in Riverside, Ca with it's Addendum for the GTV package, Mk I, II, III or IV.

Mk IV's had 47 EMPI accessories added to them, including Cigarette Lighter and Ram Induction (Road & Track, Oct '67).

Nice find! Original GTV or not, the old EMPI parts make it cool...before EMPI bought out Scat, Bugpack, etc. & whore'd themselves to China Rolling Eyes

Unfortunately, without the documentation from the dealership proving that it truly is a special edition, there's no way of proving that it is. Either way, I'd restore that car with those EMPI parts along with it.

Here's a pretty cool link on special edition VW's: http://www.sebeetles.com/1960s/#

I used to have one of these shifters in my stash, I always wondered what it was from. I wonder if I still have it?

I dig that color! That could be really striking once restored!

I do as well. I could not find anything like it for '67 in the color charts. Could it be a special GTV only color? If so, shouldn't that further prove it is authentic?

They went to the trouble of repainting everything inside too? I would think that a GTV car would be in a cooler color than white...
