Got a couple this afternoon at the grocery store.

first one from a man roughly in his forties/

"thats good looking and it has a VW 1600 engine". at first I thought, hey he knows his stuff. then I figured he was aware of it having a VW engine in it but did not realize it was a VW Thing. He was thinking kit car the best I could figure.

second one (a young man 18-20 yrs old) who immediately followed up on the heels of the first man.

He said, "What is that?", I replied a VW Thing. Next question, "What year? "I thought it was a Jeep at first". He then asked, "Does it drive like a Jeep?", I replied well it has no power steering, no power brakes, all drums all the way around. At that moment, I realized this young man most likely had never experienced any thing but disks on all four corners and power.

Couple quick fun conversations.

I was visiting my parents and their neighbor came over and asked "How do you like your Scout?"
But my favorite passing compliment was when I was driving down the highway and look to my left as the lady in the passenger seat of the Porsche going by was taking a picture.

You could also say, "it definitely floats, but not indefinitely."

Upon seeing my Acapulco for the first time a friend said, "You should be selling ice cream out of it."

My daughter comes home the other day and says "Dad, I saw a Thing like yours only it was new." I said "What!?" and then realized she saw my neighbors Thing that is lowered with a hardtop and shiny paint. I told her no, that one is actually a year older than mine. Very Happy

Over the past couple of months a disturbing trend has been happening... people yelling to get my attention as we are driving down the road. Multiple lane roads that are not highways, but when you're going 40, you don't expect people to start talking to you.

Most recent was "Hey!" *I just about jump out of the car startled* "You need to get those valves adjusted and you're leakin oil!"

I think he thought he was being clever, but every time someone yells as I'm going down the street it scares the $h!t out of me.

Anyone else having people try to talk to them while moving?

I knew a guy who owned a Rambler 4 door.

He took the letters off and re-arranged them to spell " Marbler "

and told everyone it was a new brand from GM!
