|
|
Well, I seem to have built myself into a corner. Built a new 1776 and wanted to use a Zenith with a cool old Race Trim manifold that I picked up. I also wanted to go doghouse and all the parts are in place when I figure out that I can't move the throttle tube over to line up with the carb. Do I have to do a Rube Goldberg and build a linkage, or has anyone done this and have an easy solution? |

Do what porsche did, put two of them on it. Works a whole lot better than one carb.

That would be nice, but I have one carb. I'm bailing on it for now and going single 44 with a setup I have laying around. |

Single Zenith works just fine with a stock doghouse, nothing fancy needed. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Thanks for the replies, I have gone with the Weber for now, I will address the Zenith at a later date. With the manifold I have there is no way it will work with a doghouse unless I build a linkiage. |

It looks like you have a big curve in your throttle cable as it exits the shroud. I didn't like that idea......... |
I agree that it wasn't ideal, but it worked for thousands of miles and never caused an issue. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

This SP manifold had a angle and was a bit closer to the Alt/Gen.. allowed for the stock cable tube.
On most applications its best to use a no-Doghouse, Wide Fan type shroud and make the throttle tube where it needs to be, this is what the 1/2 1600 race guys race with and it does work great for cooling.
the pic below is just one I had in a file.. the one above is a 1/2 1600 Engine.

An easier alternative might be Joe Bence's roller tube. It's only meant to have the roller pointing upwards, for a hex bar, but you can spin it however you need, and modify the mounting provision just a little to look nice. So you turn the roller to the left, and the cable won't be rubbing against anything. _________________ "A petrol engine can start readily, run smoothly and give every appearance of being in good order, without necessarily being in good tune." - Colin Campbell, "The Sportscar Engine" |

I brought up this same topic back in 2009 when I was trying to figure out the same thing.
I was running a Zenith carb on my engine, but could not figure out a way to run the throttle cable to the carb with a stock oil cooler in the fan shroud.
This was how I was routing the cable:
A: Zenith cable location.
B: Stock cable location.
I had to use an external oil cooler with this configuration.
