Hi all! I've got a 1969 VW bug that I converted to electric. I have 40k miles, and then got some transmission noise. I replaced it with a rebuilt one...but it gave me trouble and leaks. The thread on that:

So, I put my old transmission in and it makes a bad noise. Here's a video:

Any ideas on what that noise is caused by? I did pop the case open on the side of the tranny and look inside. I moved the input shaft a bit and replaced the main seal. I'm wondering if I did something wrong putting it back in.

Any advice on what is wrong with this transmission?

If it needs to be rebuilt...well, I can try that (using the Bentley book), but I'm not sure what to look for to replace (other than cleaning stuff and gaskets)

thanks,
corbin

Hopefully mcmscott will see this, or you can PM him. When you were changing transmissions, did you look for any wear or rub marks in the bell housing? Almost sounds like the flywheel is slightly rubbing. After reading both of your posts, it really sounds like you have an alignment / installation issue. Have you checked the bearings on the electric motor for wobble and thrust as well?
