I thought I had seen several years ago where a 1964 had a one year only generator, it needed the voltage regulator sitting a little more to the right because of the carb? I can not find that thread now and need help again?

Went to put on my carb after getting it back from Tim at Volkzbitz.com, this is after it not being on since I had put a rebuilt generator on years ago.

Can anyone confirm if the 1964 Type 1 had a different generator?

Using the information from the date code thread today will be spent looking in hopes I keep my original somewhere?

Thanks for any help.

Picture for reference and I will add the date code to this generator shortly so I know what I have on there now?

Your easiest fix would be to add an aluminum carb spacer to raise your carb up maybe a half inch.

I found two generators with close date codes, one is 903 or if I'm reading it right 9-63 and one that has 406 so that should be 4-64? I'm about to do a test fit and see.

I'll look at mine when I get home, but I think your carburetor is incorrect.

This is the generator with the date code of 903 and it is correct, I do believe this might have even been my OG one? At least that mystery has been solved, just hope one of the two I have can be rebuilt?

Thanks for the help as always!

Here is the photo of the Carb with the correct generator installed.

Just one problem, 903 was March 1969.

Have you looked over my generator part numbers chart?

I guess I should look at my engine more often; my regulator sits at 1 o'clock. I'm converting my car to 12v and don't need this generator setup...

903, Thanks for that information, I do see it with the help of those charts, not sure how I missed those? So it looks like my 406 should be June of 64 and that would be correct then, it was the better of the two actually. Hope to get that one rebuilt.

Thanks again.

Thanks for looking, I might need to get that one from you if my 406 is no good? So please don't let it go.

Keep in mind that the position of the regulator on top of the generator changed not from a design change to the generator, but from a change to the cooling tin - introduced at the same time as the larger choke 28PICT-1 carburetor.

It looks like you can see that in the pix above. The cooling slot in the generator is rotated to the right compared to the first generator, assuming they are the same size.

You could always relocate your regulator
