While replacing motor mounts, I discovered this hole in the engine tin. It is located behind and to the left of the alternator...next to cylinder #2. It seems to be a big hole and I don't know if it is correct?...?

R u referring to the plastic ducting on the alternator fan? That ducting travels on the rear bumper side of the motor, not through this opening. I see the screw holes, but I have nothing to attach them to. I am considering making a piece to fit here

Don't know if you can get anything from this picture or not. From the gallery:

Thanks for the help. It looks like it is #15 in the diagram, but not all of #15 is missing. Just the little corner/flange piece that juts out from #15 is missing. Its funny I looked at that exploded view of the tin many times and never noticed the little corner piece before...always good to have another set of eyes!! I swore that all my tin was in place...glad I had to replace the engine mounts...otherwise I may never have found the missing piece!

The piece of tin you have is probably for an earlier T4 engine from a bus or other use. When VW changed the fan shroud/alternator mounting in 1980 that added bit became necessary.

I now have my next mini-project...convert some old scrap tin into cooling tin!
