I may ask whoever does my engine rebuild for his opinion, and get him to do it.
I thought moving it forward would help weight distribution -- a carryover from when my Super was a quasi-German Looker. I also thought (without yet measuring) I may be able to go with a bigger battery.
I don't like the under the seat location, but I don't really have a solid reason behind my dislike. It is a little easier to get to when plugging in the battery tender -- especially now when my front lid is stuck closed. (I have the replacement cable and will figure it out in the near future.) _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

I am loving seeing all the pix here. How does the non factory colors like those terrific dark greens effect the value? My thoughts are no big deal for most if they look sharp.. |

From my anecdotal observations, a well sorted Thing is much more important to raising its market value than its originality (which does have some effect).
That said, some custom jobs reach a point where they are so much over the top, fetching a higher value becomes problematic as it narrows the number of potential buyers significantly. On VWVortex where radiator VWs are king, the ad section is full of slammed Dubs big on compliments and low on offers/buyers.
Of all custom features on Things, I think color is least important ... at least, I can't think of another factor less important. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

Welcome to the family. Is that towbar connected to anything else other than the bumper? Not sure if I'd feel comfortable towing from the bumper alone. There are only 4 bolts holding the bumper to the body (not the frame). _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Nice color choice. What kind of roll bar is on it and where do I get it? |

Yellow one was Ex German Army, eventually got a top-chop will ask my buddy for some pics.
Orange one was a US civilian one with the air holes at the rear, it was brought to germany by a buddy, sadly the chassis was twisted pretty badly from a roll-over.
The two at the rear are also both ex-german army. The green one being my first car at the age of 17.

My 74 Acapulco Thing. It is an original Acapulco but was repainted in the early 1980s to the white/dark blue seen here. 24,900 original miles.
