I took a break from breathing gas fumes so I could breathe some paint fumes. The rest of the engine bolt ons got sprayed as well as my "new" used steering wheel. It's in fantastic shape for being unrestored. Thanks Campingbox

I've got the engine installed now and my wiring harness fits pretty good behind the engine.

Oil lines are ready to go. The gold fittings are quick disconnects. I made sure to offset the hose lengths so the in and outs can't be mixed up. Wether you are taking the engine out, removing the filter or just need to get the hoses out of the way they are handy. As soon as you unhook them, the flow is stopped and keeps from drizzling oil everywhere and keeps less air out of the system.

Thanks! I had the hose and some of the fittings kicking around for a while from other projects I didn't finish. Years ago I saw the quick connect fittings for race cars and wondered why you don't see them on more of our full flow setups. Well, it's because they are pricey!! Buy when you look real close at the design you have to admit they are nice and shouldn't expect them to be $4 a piece.

Here's my manifolds after paint. I made up some paint from a chip sample that was somewhat close to the gray of the carb bodies.

Here's my "temporary" exhaust. 1 1/2" EMPI header, single quiet pack, CB high flow heater boxes and copper gaskets at all connections. I used the passenger side mudflap bracket to support the muffler with a rubber exhaust hanger-instead of the one on top of the muffler that is gauranteed to tear off later. I also fully welded the seams of the muffler that are only spot welded. I had to chop the 90 degree bend after the collector to clear my tow hitch, it's a very tight fit. Also, an oxygen sensor bung has been welded in. The only position it would fit is at the bottom. Normally, this is NOT a good idea as water can puddle into your sensor and ruin it over time. I only plan on leaving a wide band and sensor in place during tuning. I'm not interested in having gauges and extra wiring in the cab anyway. Wide bands can be sensitive to voltage spikes so disconnecting it when not in use will help prevent damage.

It's hard to tell, but a lot has been done to the exhaust. Re clocked and angled at the collector and also the tailpipe itself. The header has been converted to bolt on flanges at the heater box connections.

One day id like to either copy my design to a stainless system, or if I decide to turbo it, make a system from scratch.

All I can say is that your singlecab is lucky to have found you.

You have put your heart and soul into your ride. Very nice job.

https://youtu.be/QK7tHMmy2ko

Here's the second time I had the engine running. Oil has been changed but there's still a bunch of little things to do before driving. I need to check the valves again now that the cam and lifters have settled in. Timing is set pretty conservative ATM and running 91 octane. Carbs look to be in sync at 5.5 or soo on the snail gauge and I haven't set idle speed or mixtures. I'm pretty happy considering...... Without the turbo, I can hear the steel pushrods and straight cut cam gears a lot more. I think it sounds pretty good for a single quiet pack. I can't wait to switch it to EFI but it does pretty well with the MSD distributor with grey springs. It's idling at about 5 degrees and advances to about 28 at higher RPM. Timing is rock steady and is light years of an upgrade over the 009 that was in the 40 horse.

Thanks for the support guys, I've been pretty motivated- everything done on this page has been on two crutches except for lifting the engine.

Lol! Many people have been asking about my "purple" pulleys! They used to be black and have very rapidly started fading in the last year or two. Most of my engine work was done at night and/or fluorescent lights and my color blindness did not pick up on it...... Wink it's a older kit from BMD

Tomorrow I button up the last of my mechanical upgrades and get to drive it for the first time with 2.0 power. Cool

After a season of shakedowns, I'll finish the EFI swap, but for now it's been 2 years since my 40hp crank broke and I can't wait anymore!

Like they say, "when one door closes, another opens". Thank you broken crank for the opportunity to make my truck a more enjoyable driver.

I wanted to but I got a little paranoid about them catching on fire with the hair seat pads. Laughing

I didn't want to be the guy to do the experiment, because I've only seen the heaters used with foam
