Hey, I was wondering if anyone has a found a relatively affordable diesel vanagon hitch for either the front or the rear. I have found plenty from curt mfg that bolt onto the rear bumper hooks but they are not the 2" receivers im looking for as I would like to use a bike rack. This is the one that pops up everywhere. https://www.curtmfg.com/masterlibrary/11656/images/11656_1024x768_a.jpg

That being said, Does anyone think I could use the gowesty version (http://www.gowesty.com/product-details.php?v=&id=2582&type=) and just leave the t-bar support off as I never intend to tow any trailers and only use a bike rack?

Any help would be appreciated.

Choice #1 is the burley hitch....

Various others sell the bumper mount with a 2" tube......

A bike rack hanging has a tremendously quantity of dead weight that will severely stress a hitch and try to twist it.
You need that support for bikes..... Possible as much as if not more than a trailer needs it.

So do you think if I ordered the gowesty hitch I could do without tht-bar that goes to the engine mount for my application? I only bring it up as the diesel variant does not have this engine support in the same spot.

No, for that hitch it is vital to the hitch's stability.

The burley or similar is what you seek.

On my never ending list of things to do is build a rear bumper in a style that suits me. I'm not building a bumper any time soon. I ended up with a Rocky Mountain Westy rear bumper, great folks. It came beautifully packaged. It is a tank. You can mount it, then hang bikes off the back in a half hour. I grow fonder of it every day. My original reluctance was it's overall size. I'm over it. They do a great job. Twin Peaks Bumper. I give it a vote. It is a smart design that packages well for shipping purposes and future partial replacement should it get hit hard enough to hurt it. The quality of the build really exceeded my expectations.
