We don't need one, but love our rialta so much we are looking ahead. There are several engines one can replace a waterboxer with, but are there any engine& transmissions that are fairly straightforward (for a good mechanic, not us) to put in a eurovan?

Chrysler V6 ? ...Then you can call it a Routan.

You might want to check with the guys at LeSharo land in Boseman Montana. They have converted the Le Sharo, and possibly some Rialtas.

Very Happy

The 1.8T seems to be a common swap in Europe, but not done here as far as I know. I bet Stephan's Auto Haus in Sacramento could do this swap:

Sorry, it is an early 95, believe the eurovan half is a 94 model.
Thanks for the answers so far, we love traveling and camping in this thing!
It's still running, just planning ahead.

JDB Imports in Denver will still rebuild the 93-95 Eurovan engines as well.

Not sure if they will have the I5 motors but our local VW dealer has fully rebuilt long block motors for the 24v VR6 available for $5400 retail. Rebuilt in Germany delivered DHL 5-7 days with a 12month/12k miles warranty. My head was non repairably cracked and it ended up only being a bit more to replace the whole motor. With the motor having 218k miles I'm happy we were able to do it. At it stood we were doing the top end and timing chain for $4k. Labor on installing a new motor was slightly less than removing the head and doing the chain. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the info, pms. Hubby did a tune up, replaced a bad tire and tied down a bouncing battery.
Long trip to ca and back, van seems strong and steady. Has a lot more get up and go.
Will keep socking away $$, if need arises.
