|
|
I started taking out my front diff today (to replace leaking seals). When I was unscrewing the large nut/fitting for the speedo cable it felt like it was coming off nicely then it started to get tighter and tighter so I stopped. I thought it is probably just gunked up, but I didn't want to force it too much. It looks pretty straight forward, just unscrew and pull, but if there is something i should be aware of, I would love know.
Thanks

Yup, pretty straight forward. Just unscrew and pull off. Seems like your threads are gummed up |

Dave if your threads on the cable end get balled up I may have a spare cable? I have one cable, maybe two? I need one. Gently roll the nut back and forth with penetrant, it is strait forward. PM me your # again. I'll send you photos of both ends disconnected if you think it will help? |

Thanks for the quick replies. I guess I am being too cautious. I wondered if it could be twisting the cable or something inside the diff or something and starting to bind. |

use some WD-40/PB-Blaster or something similar to clean it as you unscrew it. Screw/Unscrew a little at the time. |

Thanks, I cleaned it up and it came right off.
Now I have to decide if I just replace the 2 output seals, or have it rebuilt even though it seems fine (220K). I am also considering a Peloquin TBD limited slip diff. I think it is now or never for that.
