so Im thinking about adding a side step to my westy.
either gowesty or bus depot…Im assuming they are the same.
Ive never seen one in person and images online have been less-than-ideal to virtually see how they look.
I mean I do like how they look but I'm having a hard time visualizing how far they hang or how far the stick out to the side.
perhaps I just need measurements to check out for myself, but pics would be nice.
Ive been thinking about one for a while now but after the new tires and wheels,
Ive added an inch in ground clearance… I have a feeling I'm really going to want one this season.
thanks!

I want to see pix as well. My '67 SO-42 had an automatic retracting step that pivoted up and down when the door was opened or closed, cool trick. Glad to be a Vanagon driver now. Those Splitties are sweet, but only when they are total rebuilds. Looking forward to selling my '67 DBL soon!!! (pending sale, down to last of paperwork running by Lawyer for the "all good" green light) And with the meager dough I'll end up with, I intend to get the conversion kit for my EJ22 -- although only an additional 50% power increase, thats going to be great! Now a step idea! budget budget budget!!!!! _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

yes, those came on ambulances.
I'd love something like that (assuming I came across one), but alas…
I have a large grey water tank right where it needs to mounts. so no go. _________________ `20 SQ5

Appears to hang about as low as a Westy propane tank. _________________ ~Kamz

don't have pics but we added one of these single steps to mom's 86 westy.
we used angle iron to bolt it to the PS propane tank mounts.
w/o it mom couldn't get in/out all to easy or often. add a handle to the inside/outside of the slider as well.

I assume you're probably talking about a sidestep for the slider.
But assuming you're talking about the two front doors, I've got this for you:
Not my rig... one I was considering buying till recently... but it had those and I was actually a big fan of them having been installed.
As far as I can tell they are Bully steps, and run between 45-100$ depending on what and where you buy it from... Installation seems pretty straight forward. _________________ - oderint dum metuant -

I owe you MORE... I'm already indebted to you for your help.
Despite that van being a wash, I really dug those steps... If you don't mind me asking, what did you end up getting and for how much? (For my wife I'm thinking I'll add them to whatever westy I get.) _________________ - oderint dum metuant -

Wow DV, only the second set of Bully side steps I've seen on a Vanagon. Other than the set I made around 2005.
Side door steps have been available since, (bay windows?)
Front door assist steps have not been available commercially AFAIK...
Took a day or so to make the drivers side. The passenger side took half a day..javascript:emoticon('')
The Bully universal step set cost me $100 CAN$. The custom brackets were another $100 for welding and mock-up. Meaning few would pay the price for a set..javascript:emoticon('')

I know I'm cheap, but here's our solution:
http://www.amazon.com/Plastics-101-6-White-EZ-Fold...lding+step
We only use it when parked/camping...folds & tucks behind the driver's seat. _________________ 86 White Wolfsburg Westy Weekender
