Thank you, good to know!
It also looks like it wastes space side to side too, making the bed smaller!

I bought an oversized one, but have not used it yet, but as soon as the baby arrives I will be 'movin' on up'. _________________ SF

I feel dumb I didn't think of this before. My stupidity forced me to make my first post! Thanks for this. I was looking for a good solution to replacing my back cushion with storage draws, but still sleep on the "1st floor". This seems simple enough. Maybe not be super comfortable but I could double up if needed. Just buy a second set. |

Thank you for the tip AND the reminder!
It's damp here in Vancouver, anyone else try to pull the top mattress out? I've got a car seat on my back bench, so the mattress will have to go into my junk room...can you imagine if I did that and forgot and then went camping? LOL

Bringing this thread back to life, my wife discovered this post while surfing the net looking for mattress toppers for the westy. Yesterday I was very surprised how perfect the top mattress fits on the bottom bed. Since it is just the two of us, I don't see why not give this a try?
If the original upper foam is not comfortable enough, I might have some memory foam cut to fit the upper mattress covers. Pretty cool discovery. _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

X2 thanks for dredging this up!
Funny this isn't normal knowledge, thread is 4 years old now. Maybe a more searchable subject would create better vanagon science ?? such as:
Upper Mattress as Topper for Lower
or does editing subjects mess up links?

I'll have to post some pics someday to show the set-up. I made two screw on wooden legs to support the front end using three prong tee nuts attached to the leaf. On the underside of the rear seat I attached some cleats that hold up the leaf. It's very similar to table leaf extension hardware. It all stowes easily away when not in use. Since we never sleep in the upper bunk, I have the hinge screws out so that the leaf can be taken down easily.
I had wanted to do this for some time and was thinking about how to do it with a padded board or something similar. Then one day sitting around thinking about it I realized the van already had a padded board that could be used. Seemed like a no brainer after that. |
old as balls thread... but that I would really like to see. _________________ - oderint dum metuant -
