Reassembling all the painted engine tin today. Everything went pretty smooth until I realized I had one piece left over...yikes. In the Haynes manual on page 21 it's called "warm air duct (R rear)" Rear as in near alternator or near firewall? I can't see/figure out where it goes at such a late place in the assembly. Anyone?

If memory serves it has one or two botts that bolt to the 3/4 cylinder side cylinder cover plate....listed as part #2 in the lower picture on page 21.....and has two bolts that attach it ro part # 5 in the lower picture which is the 3/4 lower "sled tin".
You should be able to put it on after removing the lower sled tin ......with a little wiggling. Ray

1972-73-74 Type IV (4) Engine Tin

Please do not take the fan apart. You would need to realign and balance it.

You can't just leave it out if that's what you are hinting at, try to gently jam it in but I suspect you'll have to move a step backwards before proceeding further.

I know it's exciting to be remantling but now's the time to do it right, it won't be any easier later.

Great videos but...The you tube video leaves out the installation of this part. Looking at the alternator,is it on the right surrounding the alternator or firewall end?

Sorry photos came up slow that piece fits in on alternator side near rear of bus so rear passenger side pretty sure it just kinda snaps into place as you mount other pieces no bolts hold it I place
I will go have a closer look at mine

But you need to install for sure directs heat / air flow

These other guys really know there stuff so don't ignore their advice

Ok, that piece goes to the rear of #2 cylinder. The top edge there in the pic goes against the engine case. That hole at top right is the cable from the thermostat, so is upper left. The screws at the bottom secure the top right tin over the cyllinders. To get it in the fan housing will need to be loosened up so it can be slid in. The rear edge goes under the fan outlet lip and flap. You kind of have to hold it in position and push the fan in to hold it there.

BTW TO STRESS WHAT TCASH posted - taking the fan apart is a no-no. Without a lathe and time on your hands it is near impossible to get it running true again. Ask me how I know.
