I have new Gerson gates on my DC (no holes) and my crusty gates are long gone shipped to Puerto Rico.
Would someone be willing to tame some measurements, pictures so I can drill some holes. Gulp!
T hx!

Are you talking about tail light holes? _________________ Current VWs 71 T2 Westy SO-72/6(Miami), 71 Crew Cab, 2015 GSW TDI

Negative, there are little rubber bumpers that stop the gates from smacking the body. My holes were filled on the rear gate and would love to hear some measurements. _________________ Wash your hands

Two inches down to touch the top of the rubber from under the ledge ruler at an angle, other measurements look like they would be a bit more complicated to get exact without taking them off… _________________ Current VWs 71 T2 Westy SO-72/6(Miami), 71 Crew Cab, 2015 GSW TDI

This is a split but is the best picture:
Looks like the tail gate bumpers just miss the tail lights.
Here on the doppelkabine, you can see you need the rubbers to line up with the door, and its probably equidistant on the other side. And since there is no treasure chest, I imagine there is a bumper that meets the gate bumper on both sides.

The white DC is missing both corresponding side gate bumpers that should be mounted on the body, side gate bumper rests on a body bumper of the same size… _________________ Current VWs 71 T2 Westy SO-72/6(Miami), 71 Crew Cab, 2015 GSW TDI

The two dots should be it. The body guy probably filled in your holes, so you're good to put your holes anywhere.

No front stops on the body, only the rears:
I'll try and get some measurements tomorrow, I'm guessing the Klassicfab gates don't have the cutouts in the inner reinforcements to clear the nuts? That would provide clues where to drill.
They all line up just to one side of a body seam or opening where the metal has some backing nearby. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Mine is a 71 and has front stops too... it is 1/2" from the seam for the bottom one and 1/4" for the top one(that is the outside diameter of bumper closest to the seams)
Side Gate, back top bumper is aprox 11 1/8" from the forward edge of the rear seem, the bottom one is 1 1/2" forwards of the rectangular marker light (outside diameters of rubber bumpers)
Side Gate rear top gate bumpers are aprox 12" from edge (outside diameters of bumper)
The outside top diameters of bumper of the rear gates rest about 1/2" away from the deck lid opening edge when open… the upper 10mm bolts all seem to just go through the double sheet metal in the gates, I would not be surprised if the factory had a jig that was setup from the insides of the gates to make sure the bolts went through the double sheet metal
FYI also double bumpers for the rear cab door-
I’m sure BD will provide better info to help you guys ;0)

Great response guys. This will be a good resource. One more thing, can someone get a picture of the inside of a gate. I believe some of the bumpers were held on by a nut visible on the inside of the gate. _________________ '66 Westfalia SO44

Hi:
I'm trying to find instructions on how to install the side (2 piece) windows in the back seat (one
is in the 3rd door) of my 68 double cab.
I can't find any instructions on line.
Can you please offer me some help or direction?
Thank You,

You need M8 Countersunk. I bought 30 mm versions of these to attach my sides.

I just bought screws for my truck and this is what I found.....
These McMaster screws are stainless and work just fine, but the head diameter is 4.5mm vs the stock screws that had 5mm heads.
https://www.mcmaster.com/90258A308/
I also ordered these from ISP West to compare, these screws aren’t stainless, but do have the correct head diameter.
https://vwispwest.com/screw-csk-raised-hd-m-8-x-18-multi-purpose-n214011/
I believe having the correct head diameter is important for the next owner, because the main issue of removing these fasteners IF they have been painted over while on the truck, the smaller dia head is going to really allow the paint to load up around the fastener. This makes it a real SOB to remove these Phillips head screws without stripping the heads.
I got lucky replacing my gates and was able to take out all the screws but I did have to use heat to soften the paint. Only one screw had to have the head drilled off, and luckily that was on one of the upper latch receivers. I have a set of new gates at the body shop now, and needless to say, I’ve requested the gates be painted off the truck and the hardware painted separately. This way if the gates get removed again, the paint hasn’t fused the screws to the hinges.
Left is ISP West screw, right is from McMaster.
