so what about the boat on the bus? any more info there? |
That bus with the trailer boat belongs to Lee of the Northwest VW Club. A couple of years ago, he brought it out to a local meet, He took both boats out for a cruise on Lake Washington that day.
Here's a link to their web site:

I recently picked up two Allstate trailers (selling one), and when I showed my father he told me how my grandfather had a trav-L-boat, the single swivel wheel folding trailer. He was quite the outdorsman. Wish I had a picture of that. |

That's not a trailerboat, it's merely a trailer or caravan, with a boat-shaped lid or roof!
If you really want to see a proper trailer boat, check out the following:
This two-piece, folding, hinged boat cum trailer, called the Maverick, designed by David Peppiatt, of Naiad Marine was quoted as costing £800 in 1983.
It's quoted specifications as a trailer, are as follows:
Length – 5 feet
Width – 4 feet 6 inches
Height – 3 feet
Capacity – 45 cubic feet
Payload – 450 pounds
It's quoted specifications as a trailer, are as follows:
Length – 10 feet
Beam – 4 feet 6 inches
Depth – 1 foot 6 inches
Sail Area – 65 square feet
Weight – 100 pounds
Quoted contact details, in 1983 were as follows:
David Peppiatt, 44 Hazelwood, Great Linford, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England.
Tel. +44 (0) 908 605 252 (obsolete number)
The above picture showing the Maverick being recovered from the water, folded in half and the trailer section being attached, was originally featured in a magazine article, as follows:
Barry Francis, "Trailer for sail", Drive & Trail, February 1983, p50. |
I believe VW actually made something like that and it was called 'Volksboat' or something like that. _________________ '63 D/C

These little jewels were made by Trailorboat in San Rafael, Ca. from 1961 thru 1963. The spelling is Trailorboat, not Trailerboat. As of now we have found about 28 that still exist. New reproductions are being made now in Oregon if anyone is interested. |

My good friend Jim D. In Ogden, Utah sold his trailorboat a few years ago to a man who now reproduces them.
Jim also has a folding boat trailer for sale.
I'll try to download a few photos later. |

I just came across this thread and thought I'd post a picture of my Trailboat. I don't have any history on it as I've searched on and off for years. It comes with its original trailer that has 4 clasps that clamp it to the trailer.it takes an outboard motor.
Need a little work and will get round to it one day
