Hello!
I can't seem to find any information on the size of the generator strap bolt for an early bay ('71).
Anyone know the size?
Thanks _________________ 1973 Thing 1600 T181

Yes M8x1.25. However, the length will depend on what kind of strap you have. The new EMPI ones don't come "pre shaped" to fit the generator and stand. A used VW strap will only require an M8x20 or maybe even a shorter bolt. (Of course there should be a wavy lock washer in there.) Last time I installed an EMPI strap, it took an M8x35 or x40 bolt to get the thing closed enough to tighten, then I replaced the bolt with a shorter one. _________________ Learn how your vintage VW works.
