Hey, what jack are you guys carrying around with you in the bus for changing a flat tire?
I have a nice floor jack for work in the garage, but it is a beast to carry around in the bus.
I used to just carry a AAA card instead of a jack, but a recent experience has made me reconsider this practice. _________________ '64 standard microbus

If you jack points (and surrounding steel) are not rusted, a stock jack is great.
I carry a small walmart floor jack in a plastic case. _________________ I make HWE style roof racks, Jim-Dandy racks, SO-33 metal parts, Dormobile racks, HWE style ladders, engine crank start handles, Westy rack tags, Binz tags, Sundial badges, State of California tags, steering lock electrical covers and single / double cab gate latch friction blocks.

The stock jack is great. I carry a wooden pad for ground support if needed. |

Harbor Freight aluminum floor jack, $59, small enough and only about 40 pounds. I have one in each of my vehicles. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Agree ^ Those HF jacks are pure garbage for everyday use, but are awesome for a tire change/emergency jack. Bring a piece of 4X4.
I figure the stock jack is enough, unless I'm worried something more involved may happen. |

When my stock jack gave up the ghost, I bought one of these newer scissors-style jacks to carry in my Westfalia:
237-011-031 Bus Scissors Jack - Type 2 - OEM
That was six years ago, and I have been fortunate to never use it.
When/if I am at home and doing brake/wheel work, I block my wheels, and then use a floor jack an axle at a time, or put the whole bus up on jack stands if I'm going to be at it for awhile. _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------

Stock jack- all the way. Besides, Volksbaggin is now making really cool bags using TMI material for these things. She does not make one that improves the storage of your HF and walmart jacks. _________________

I carry a scissor jack, I wouldn't trust a cheap hydraulic of any type to work. It's stored, neglected and rusted in your bus, gets air in it, then it won't work when you need it. Mechanical all the way in a rarely used application like that. |
I like this argument for some kind of mechanical jack over hydraulic in this application.
Looks like I'll be looking for some sort of scissors jack or stock jack solution. _________________ '64 standard microbus

^^ This all the way. For home maintenance, the $15 jack pad mentioned above with a standard floor jack is worth every damn penny. |

My jack point failed over the weekend. Then out of luck, jack wedged in broken jack point. Had to be rescued.
So off to the salvage yard & found what appears to be a great option. From a somewhat recent Chevy Suburban. $25.00
It fits in the cavity under the seat & lift height is 17" more with wood block.
Lifts perfectly under torsion tubes front & rear.
