Will earlier transaxles fit a 1967 beetle? _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Yes . . . An earlier "tunnel" type transaxle will bolt in, BUT . . .
It will have "short" axles.
The "bellhousing" area is smaller in diameter than your '67 transaxle.
It will not have a Back-Up Light switch.
It will have a different gear ratio.
It will fit in the '67 Beetle if you are able to address those few items. _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |

A closer, better match would be a transaxle from a '68 Beetle.
A couple spacers would allow you to use your 5-lug drums on the '68 axles. _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador!

An earlier transaxle may bolt in but it the 67 was the first year that had a 12 volt flywheel and I don't think a 12 volt flywheel will fit inside the bell housing very well on the 6 volt transaxles. Also the 67 Transaxle is a better transaxle than the earlier tranxaxles for the 67 year they were redesigned and used in the 67 and 68 cars. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

For future reference, with the average age of your average samba user, coupled with the fact that Facebook is diminishing traffic to all forums, you most likely will have to wait longer than four hours for an answer. There are also certain questions that have been asked/answered many times before, so try doing a search if you can't get the info you're looking for in the time frame you'd like. |
