I think your right, it almost looks too thin to be a crank handle. It's the same thickness as the correct lug/jack handle I need. _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

Polished out the slide rails for the rag assembly. Been renovating a bathroom in the house so not much done on the bug.

Got my beam narrowed 3.5" and wheels widened to 15x8s and 15x6s. Decided to go with wide steelies instead of the polished 5 spokes. Not sure yet what color I'll paint them yet.

Built a body dolly. Made it tall enough so frame can roll under it. Body coming back off soon

Got the shell on the dolly. Started stripping the rear apron of paint. Going to be a long road ahead of paint stripping, sanding and new paint prep.

Had this rear apron latch cut out of another car and welded it onto the aftermarket rear apron I have. Still need to grind the welds and line up the decklid better.
Also got some new tires for the rear 8" smoothies 225/50/15 and some more parts off CL including a Scat 35 cam for the engine. Wires are old school.

Been working on the bug again. Got some shock towers, welded them to the beam and shortened the leaves. Painted the beam again, painted the frame head, steering box and bolted the beam back on.

I picked up some 1.25" wider fiberglass rear fenders but I'm not sure if I'm going to use them yet.
I also am converting this later model fender to early style in case I go with stock size steel fenders
Other side

Also put in new cable boots. Still need to replace clutch crossshaft and bushings.

Here's what I did on the beam after I cut down the stock shock towers.
Had to mark and dimple the leaves

Pulled it outside, started sanding down some of the surface rust. Still more to go.
Pulled the harness out
I ended up using a later model fender on the pass side, so I filled in the bumper bracket area
Primed the fenders & cut the opening for the bumper bracket. Still need to drill for the overrider hole.

Cleaned up the tie rods and shortened them about an inch and tapped the ends. May need to shorten them a little more. Going to change driver side tie rod ends.

Pretty much wrapped up the front end and put in the pedal assembly.
Put in new cross shaft and bushings
Finished drilling the hole for over rider in this fender.
Did some more sanding and bodywork.
Used Evercoat Rage on the quarter panel. Stuff is nice and smooth, goes on like butter and sands well too.

Got the tires mounted on the polished 5 spokes I got. Pretty much level front and rear.

Picked up a NOS driver door. Will be using this one since its better than the other 2 driver side ones I have.
Started sanding it down, its in like perfect shape.
