Hi,
I'm totally new to thesamba and wanted some advice. How well do VW's with engines of a different make hold up? Seems a bit odd to me, but I can understand the desire for a different engine. My dad had a camper bus and a vanagon while I was growing up and they (the VWs) always seemed to be needy.
Thanks

Installing another make engine into a vw can be expensive. If is that important that a different engine be installed you might want to re-think the purchase of a VW all together and just get the ford. Making those changes also hurts the resale value of the VW.

I'm actually thinking of buying a VW that already has a ford in it... I'm curious as to the reliability / repair needs of such set ups. Thanks for the info though.

If the engine is a good Ford engine and you take care of it things should be fine. Any engine is only as good as the treatment it has had.
