Took out my fuel tank to work on the brake system. The tank does not appear to be leaking anywhere but has seen better days. I'm trying to keep this 1963 bug as original as feasible but if it's not the original tank I may just get a new one from WW and not put the effort into restoring this one. I did not see a vw logo or a part number anywhere on it. Is there a way to tell an original from an after market tank?

Looks like an original 62-67 Deluxe style.
External cap lock, ribs all the way across and no flat rear corner = not an older reproduction
If it can be saved, is not thin or has serious rust.. .. save it.
Spend it elsewhere..

So, what does it look like inside... at the bottom around the outlet? _________________ Andy T.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox. |

appears correct, keep the original tank if at all possible. I wish I had not tossed mine out 30 years ago when it leaked, nor let my Microbus middle seat get left outside under a tree for 20 years. _________________ Help Prevent VW Engine Fires, see this link.....Engine safety wire information

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your responses.
Ok, since it appears to be original I will restore it. I'm thinking I will rinse it with soapy water and BBs, sand it, prime it and spray rustoleum black on it. _________________ 1963 Beetle
