I've had my car about 10 months and never drove it at night until yesterday. The alt light glows real dim. I had always thought it was completely out after starting engine. I tried lights off and on it still glows either way. I suppose it does it in daytime also but just can't see it. It keeps the battery charged. Is this normal or is the alt. charging a little low. It is Motorola with internal reg. |

This is not uncommon with alternators in other vehicles.
Set DC voltmeter 0-20 scale, start engine, rev to like 2000 rpm with lights on, record and post voltage. If 13.5 or so to 14.4 volts, then happy driving. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. True, had this problem with a GM alternator. Turned out to be a shorted diode in the 'diode pack'. Bosch alternators have 'diode packs' too. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia
