Can someone explain the Clutch Cable length differences, SB

I am working on a friends 79 Super Beetle Convertible and I had to replace the clutch cable. I ordered a new on and it seems to be to long.

Part number is 111 721 335C. Is this for earlier SB's.

Was there a change in length at some time during the run of Super Beetles and if so, what is the part number?

That one is for 72-74 and should be 1/2" too long.
