Wondering if anyone has tried one of these Performance Electric P38 Fuel Pumps? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1400469
It "looks" like the Bosch pump, but RockAuto sells them for $46
What's inside? Is is a quality Bosch clone or piece of junk? |

I didn't see where it specified the LPH or pressure. Probably okay, but maybe something you'd want to know. |

Image below doesn't really answer your question but may shed some light? Looking at their website, http://www.electricfuelpumps.com/ it seems it's a different design than the typical roller type. This page shows what VW's the P38 can be used in (bottom of page):

So anyone ends up running a P38 fuel pump with their vanagon? I a thinking about getting one as I don't even know if the Bosch really worth that extra anymore...any input on it would be great! Noisy and etc??? Thx much! |

I believe the 84 westy i just bought has this pump, it looks just like it anyway. The pump works fine but mine is SUPER NOISY! Has anyone else had this issue with this pump? I am upgrading to the late model steel fuel filter and removing the plastic square pre-filter.

In my experience, the square plastic filter will cause a lot more pump noise when it wants to be changed. Possibly your 'upgrade' will prove to be quieter. |

FYI - GoWesty recommends (and sales) these as an alternative to the Bosch pump. I'm getting ready to replace an original pump on a 77' 2L, and bought this to try. I'll carry the original (although suspect) as a spare. _________________ Click to view image |

A few months ago, there was a detailed thread for using the P-37 pump. I installed one today and the van will not start. I have two questions:
1.) Is the pump outlet on the same end as the electrical terminals?
2.) The P-37 had + and - signs at the terminals. I wired the minus to ground. Is that what you did.

Im contending with my fuel pump as we type. Just today I replaced the filter and cleaned the pump. Was still noisy until I blew air back into the tank. THen the entire system went silent.. Awesome. Like a dream come true.
The damn thing ran fine 35 years ago. Im pretty sure the debris in the tanks is responsible for a good deal of the noisy pumps we hear about.
yup - to ground. if you do it backwards your van wont start.
outlet is the smaller end. usually says out. _________________ Support Small Business.
