Between the look of 15" and 17" she chose the 15. So I picked the tires. My previous rears Pirelli 205/65 and brand new Kumho 175/55/15 for the front

I get to nerd out on the details and make all those decisions, so I went with star spline drive black lugs.

Clearance at fenders is an exact 2" per side. The wheels and CB disc brakes added an inch to each side. This is probably as low as I feel good with her driving it and she doesn't want it too low either.

The beam is where it's going to be, but the back is just mocked up sitting on jack stands. The car is basically going to sit the same as the pics with the turbo engine.

Once the Trans is back in it will sit nice and a slight rake to the stance once again. I'm comfortable with the rear height, hasn't fried wheel bearing and nothing's ever bottomed out. Some parts of the build have been figured out years ago and the homework has already been done!

I've got a real contact patch now! The 135 tires never gave me any trouble but did lock up and slide easily. I think I narrowed the perfect amount because the tires don't rub at all lock to lock and I didn't have to use any kind of Pitman arm stop.

Normally I might not show you the exact color and keep it a surprise. But after 16 years, to hell with it! I am sick of a primered and mismatch car. Sick to death of looking at it. I gave the gas tank a nice refresh and fixed the dings. Also, I painted it the eventual body color:

The bottom of the tank is just plain black

The top of the tank is the future body color. GM Carbon Flash Metallic. It's used late model Corvette and Camaro and special order for other models. It's a tough color to show in pics but it's a black pearl with gunmetal hues in the sun. Looks like normal black in low light. Just look at the reflections. I didn't even buff the paint and it's only 2 coats of clear. I'm thinking a doing the body with 2 sessions of 3 coats with wet sanding in between for a total of 6 coats. Cool

I never had a set of properly working visors in the car. Someone drilled holes for 65+ ones but I wanted the right style. After all this time, I'm done waiting for the correct 58-59 visors to fall in my lap, so I made some out of broken repop oval ones (they don't fit well, wrong shape). I think I made a seperate thread about them.

Next, I tackled the front fenders. The ones that came on the car were pretty nice, but repro of different companies so they didn't match. I picked up a set of OG fenders off a 65 about 10 years ago. I decided to pull them back off and do it all- section headlight buckets (I want NO tire rubbing ever again), add early style wire tubes, fix a few cracks, fill the turn signal holes (wrong position anyway), bodywork, prime.

I just trimmed some A/C compressor steel tubing I had and welded it up.

The smart tires barely clear, if I want to throw stock wheels with wide whites on, it will probably rub even if I raise the front.

Pretty self explanatory, just keep checking the fit of the headlight assembly. I have the H4 style, so they're somewhat low profile.

I wanted to get rid of the crappy repro turn signals and go with LED's. Fitted some swan neck mirrors so there's finally a passenger side mirror. I care about these things more as I get older and experience more stupid drivers.

A PO put this jagged and crooked hole in the dash. The choke cable hole was also mangled, I cleaned up the hole there and added the cigarette lighter. I had a magnet covering the hole between the switches forever. It was time to deal with it. I was going to put a matching fog light switch there, but figured out the dash has a slight curve the made the knob point up. No bueno. My next thought was weld it up. Hmm, easy enough. Then I thought why not put a vintage clock? Loved the look, but I knew it was never going to be accurate and it would piss me off to know that I'm stuck with the hole after paint.

So I found these Autometer clocks are almost exactly the same diameter, so I can have a modern accurate clock that can be switched out to a vintage one if I choose later.

Here's the new Speedhut GPS speedometer and gas gauge combo I ordered. We decided to go blue with interior dash lighting and was able to have Speedhut match the speedo features to the clock. Fits the stock hole perfectly (4 1/2" speedo). This thing does it all, trip meter, LED, GPS accuracy with no stupid adapters, 0-60 times, peak mph, gas gauge adjustable to any sender.

No weird readings from small tire size, lifetime warranty and my stock speedo was broken, as well as the clear needle. With a nice stock restored speedo for $300+, this one at $400 including gas gauge it's a no brainer

I had been holding on to this correct door for many years- the one on the car was a bondoed 60-64 door that was pretty messed up. Like it was layed on the ground and ran over. Lumpy too. Door gaps were impossible, especially at the very top.

The oval door was real nice but had a crack and some holes for a "turbo mirror". Ugh, hates those things! Someone did a good job welding up the crack, but then the metal cracked next to the weld. I decided to cut it all out and start over. You can't be too careful on a black paint job.

Now, I've never been able to get the bumper support bars to fit properly through the apron. This early 60's style apron was only welded on with 4 tiny tacks. It looks like they weren't a very good welder and gave up because they were burning through like it was too got with too high of wire speed. I'm so glad because it made it easy to fix. It was also put on a hair crooked.

You can see little remnants of the original apron. This new one was just shoved over those scabs and actually messed up the fender to body gaps a little bit.
