I installed a 200mm clutch in my 1965 6 volt bug using a bus flywheel on the front of a 1600 engine married to the stock 65 trans. The car has only has been driven 100 miles since the install but since making the swap, it has taken more pressure to depress the clutch than it should making driving less enjoyable.
Today I removed the engine and found the cross shaft bushing had failed and the throw out bearing was no longer centered. I am not sure if that caused the stiff pedal or using the wrong cable arm did so. At any rate, I know I am one of many folks using a 200mm clutch in a six volt trans and have experience enough to tell me if I need to change the stock 6 volt curved cable arm with a different selection. If you are using the stock arm successfullywith no appreciable change in pedal stiffness I would be very pleased. Advice is much appreciated. Regards, Carl |

My '63 has a 200mm flywheel and the '63 cable arm works well. The bad cross shaft bushing, and the throwout bearing could all be causing increased pedal pressure. Is the pad on the pressure plate (where the throw out bearing presses) damaged? |

I have the same set-up in my '63 Beetle...200mm, 109 tooth (6V size) flywheel and a 6V swing-axle transmission. The stock 6V clutch arm works fine and the clutch pedal effort is exactly the same as my '67 Ghia (stock 12V set-up). _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)
