I'M STOKED!!!!!!! I took it to a local VW wagon hause here in town for some info. This is the verdict:

I have wheel adapters on the front and back...the real pattern is 5 on 205mm

My rear drum brakes are running off of a bus master cylinder

My ride height is stock, he suggested to leave that alone

My transmission is a 1966/earlier bug

My steering is shit, held together by a clamp/cotter pin

My motor is a 1971 w/ dual port heads

Chasis is 1969-

Tranny is 1967/earlier

Front end is 1965

He suggested the lean could be due to needing motor mounts and tranny mount. He grabbed the side of the motor and lifted up and it shook like crazy. It was just metal on metal.

Gotta love PO's...

Anybody have anything good bad or indifferent to say about any of the findings? Anybody else have just an absolute hodgepodge of parts? Thanks for the help!!!

Sounds like mine is similar.
Front suspension and transaxle from a '65, 1600 DP from a '71.
I have a Jammar pedal set and master cyclinders for brakes and clutch.

I used this rear disc conversion from CB Performance:

4620 ROTOHUB™ Rear Disc Brake Kit, fits short swing axle to 1967 - Late 4 lug bolt pattern

Went on with zero drama, and works like a champ.

Any recommendations on which disc brake conversion to go with?

From personal experience don't use EMPI Disk Brakes. I thought yeah everyone says that but what could it hurt....and ordered all 4 corners. With the money and time I have spent trying to get them to work correctly I probably could have got the best ones available. I have gone through single circuit master cylinders, dual circuit master cylinders, bench bled everything several times, replaced lines, replaced proportioning valve x2, then dropped it off at the buggy shop and they couldn't get them dialed in either.

Just a heads up. The stories about how bad they are is not an exaggeration. Twisted Evil

OK, NO EMPI BRAKES, got that loud and clear.

Are other Empi parts that much of a problem?

The only thing that I recommend are their axles which you don't need.

After looking at everybody else's consoles on Google and Samba, I had an idea and took my idea to Metalworx Inc., here in Fayetteville, NC. I told Kory to make me a Badass console and turned him loose. He gets the credit for the design/mad fab skills. Roger at Final Touch did the powder coating. I just put the square pegs in the round holes.

Looks like you are off to a great start on the rebuild. If I can make one suggestion, you currently have one of the worst carb setups on there, coupled with one of the worst exhaust systems Laughing

Change out those two things and get some power back out of that engine!

Great console really love the color ! And don't let em bug you about the progressive! They just don't want to spend 900 hrs tuning, making sure the ignition is set up, having good manifold heat for only a small performance gain over stock & so so mileage. Oh Crap! Man gotta convince the wife to let me put dual 44s on her buggy!

I don't know yet. I like the radio, I'm old school. I've got some wake board speakers that will mount on the cage behind my head. The only time I'll be able to hear the radio worth a crap will probably be at a stop light.

How's that DGAS carb working out? most people think they are too much for a VW.

I originally had a single carb that people were giving me grief about the looks of...so I got a deal at a bug show on my 34 dual carb setup, 100 bucks including linkage. I'm happy with how it turned out. I need to take an updated pic on my motor.
