Hey guys,
I go to Death Valley quite a bit with work and was out there for 7 days testing cars. (June 24 through July 1)
While I was at Furnace Creek, this Bus pulls in with a single occupant.
Was it anyone here?
I didn't ask cuz I don't like bugging people that may be trying to have a vacation/holiday.

Last week or so, I've caught a few glimpses of this 1970 Westy tin top, mildly modified, non original ruby red paint, with racks and windsurfer stuff on top.
I noticed it parked at Rudy's Tacos, so thought I'd take a picture.

The owner came out and we had a pleasant conversation. He's Spruce Baugher, born here in Waterloo, Iowa. Been living in Hood River Oregon. A few years ago he was back in town visiting parents and bought this 1970 Westy tin top. Mostly as seen here. He's been living large in the small bus, having gone to Baja California 9 times and bringing back his black dog. He estimates he might have driven it 200,000 miles. Lots of stories!

this adds more fuel to my argument that the 1970 model is the best bay bus for reliability.

Hey that's cool, I met Spruce when he limped his bus into our shop last year with a broken rear torsion bar Shocked . We happened to have a few laying around, and had him back on the road that evening. Looks like the bus was painted since i saw it last. He even gave us one of his CD's too. I like his song about his bus "Ruby". Thanks for sharing. Keep on busin' Spruce

Spruce really needs a new windshield. And installation. I suggested there might be a reasonable shop in Colorado. Or what is the best plan. I don't have any spares any longer. I think he's gonna be here in Iowa for another week or so. I could probably chase him down with a message.

I know Spruce too! Helped him a bit last fall when he put new heads and trans in before he left for Baja. I think the bottom end gave out this winter too so I hope he's got it all sorted out.
That a Bus has seen a lot of good surf. Very Happy

Found this one in Japan today. Assuming it's a 71 due to the plates.

Just got back from a long week in Italy and this was the only baywindow I saw the entire time. It was parked in "Spartacus Camping" just outside Pompeii; I walked by and my VW spidey sense tingled so I looked through the fence and there it was...
Plus a vanagon in the lower left!

Saw this beauty many times over the last two weeks in the Outer Banks NC. Here it's parked in the Food lion parking lot in Avon, but we also saw it parked outside of Duck Village Outfitters in Salvo.

The cooler weather last week must have brought out the Busses. Here's one filling up at a Wawa in Warwick, PA.

Saw this Westy parked in Center City Philadelphia. I'm pretty sure I've seen this one around town a few times before. Unfortunately, it is parked in front of what may very well be the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at. Hopefully the owner wasn't in there eating.

I live and work in the Lehigh Valley, Pa. These are from the summer 2016 while driving to jobs. I delivered to the owner of the trucks home. He's building a garage for all his toys.

Typically in the Split-Window forum, but I thought I'd come over for a visit and post these nice oddities from California.

The elongated Bay Window bus I saw in Berkeley, California
Looks like it has a Subaru engine in it.

This other bus? Should be obvious where I saw this one.

If you've never been to Locke, CA on the Sacramento Delta, it is well worth a day trip.
Historically engaging, funky, and if you go at lunch time, one of the best hamburgers you can have at Al the Wop's
(yeah; a bit of a dated race-insensitive sounding bar/restaurant name, but WELL WORTH visiting).
