Paint liquid glycerin on any vinyl, plastic, or rubber parts like your mats to make them more supple. Leave the glycerin on at least over night and wipe off the excess later, repeat at least once a year. Probably twice a year if one lives in a place that gets really hot as a norm. |
No, I didn't. 😬
But that's a great tip on the mats, thanks! Between work, buying a house, Jeeping, grandchildren and now the '58.... Well, let's just say I've been keeping a close eye on it, but driving her every day _________________ My father's 1970 Beetle-

AM radio sucks! I only receive 2 stations: Church music and conspiracy theory talk radio. I'd be happy with late night Cuban radio but even they are silent. Probably went FM like the rest of the planet!
So how do I get some decent music without losing the Sapphire 1 Radio? Redi-Rad has a solution.
Literally 5 minutes to hook up, music at the "10" mark on the dial |
How is the sound and functionality of the Redi-rad. Ive been kicking around maybe buying one myself. Right now ive just been using a blue tooth speaker. It would be cool to actually have the sound come out of the factory speaker. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Cool, thanks for the vid. Yeah, im not worried about great sound. Im just wanting to be able to utilize my radio, and like you not have to listen to talk radio, or Spanish music.
Oh, another question....did you have to drill an holes anywhere for wires, etc, and if so where did you drill them? _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

This past Saturday, I took the Diamond for a little drive. 358 miles round trip at freeway speeds. Two of my friends decided to travel along as we were going to a VW show and swap meet at the State Farmers Market in Montgomery, AL.
I had an ulterior motive as I was looking for a few bits for my '58.
My daughter Amber, drove my Jeep as a chase vehicle just in case.
7am at home, all clean and shiny
Claire in the back seat. Jeff posted this on Facebook and said, "I can't believe I'm going to take a road trip in a Vintage VW." It's funny though, by the time we arrived he was ready to buy a beetle for himself. Hahaha!
Small show, only about 50 cars and vans. We were number 49
The diamond attracted a lot of Lookie Lou's...
A sampling of the cars there.
Jeff and Claire taking in the scenery
Here's something you don't see every day on this side of the Atlantic
And a child seat in the back of a '61 vert. Amber said it looked, "Sketchy to her"

^^ Agree! I checked your gallery and did not see a photo of your '64's door panels. I assume they are the two-tone light grey and cream? If so, your seats will look great with the panels, for a much more "unified" interior look.
The Fiat 600 Multipla certainly is an unusual vehicle. Local friend has one, though when I last saw it over 10 yrs ago it was very rusty and needed a full restoration. He let me sit in it, and the 6 seats are a wonder of space utilization. But mostly for "smaller" people like the bambinos. |

Thanks guys! I did the rear seat this morning, and have been working on the passenger seat this evening.
Had to weld a spring on the driver's seat and then put burlap down on top of the springs. New WW coconut fiber and jute material over that. I'm really impressed with the covers, great quality!
I actually had to adjust my mirror today because I'm sitting higher than before. And yes, the door panels are the gray/cream originals. It really does go well together. I'll snap some interior pics tomorrow. _________________ My father's 1970 Beetle-

Looks great. One thing I see and only because it was the same on mine after redoing the seats. Your piping on the back top edge is sitting odd. The flap that the sewn piping creates is resting partially on the front and partially on the back making the piping look like its crossing over. Takes some massaging to get it to either all sit on the front or all on the back. Love the color wish I could have saved my original door cards, but they were too far gone. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Birthday coming up, so my wife and daughter decided to surprise me a tad early with some 6 volt fog lights.
I ordered a NOS Hella relay, mount brackets, and a switch. Switch has not arrived yet, but it'll be easy enough to install after the fact.
Relay control wire comes from the low beam fused wire. The switch will be in that wire and mounted between steering column and ignition switch, when it arrives.
Power for the bulbs comes from fuse 8 off the battery wire. I added a 16amp fuse for starters to that wire prior to the relay.
Got everything wired in and when the lights arrived today, they got installed.
They work when the low beams are on and shut off when high beams are selected or when the headlights turn off _________________ My father's 1970 Beetle-

You should mount those behind the bumper. Even if you have to make adapters to get the lights to shine over the top bar. Otherwise first time someone backs into a parking spot a bit too far those are going to be crushed.
That is the reason "Bumpers" are called that... _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
