The body is completely off now!!!!

I removed the heater channel and now the firewall as well. They'll be going in soon. Also I got new seats from a member on here. They're great and they were cheap! They need the springs to be welded a bit but it's okay.

Yup I've seen his videos, they are very good and that's what I'll be following from when I do recover the seats. I might weld the springs this week, but I won't recover them for a bit. I still have the channels and firewall to do before I do the interior. Those are my two major projects at the moment. Firewall first, then back on the blocks above the pan so I can bolt the channels to the floor and lower the body on to them so they line up.

Change of plans... I patched the battery tray a few months back and was fine but after removing the body and tar boards there is MUCH more rust and holes than anticipated. So I'm going to be replacing the floors as well. Wolfsbürg west is out of stock on left pans at the moment so I'm thinking of getting some from Johns Car Corner. Also I have a question about the seats. When I paint them, do I use any type of clear coat after? And if I do would it be gloss, semi-gloss, etc.

Seat frame color is L-43 grey black. Mine are all old and worn. I think gloss would be a little too shiny. But that's just me. If mine I'd do semi-gloss and be happy with it.
Good Luck.

Yup I bought a can of pint from Wolfsburg West. I'll clear coat it in semi gloss then I guess, thanks!

Just a quick question about the rear apron. Right on top of the exhaust pipes they bump out. Is this normal? Here's a few pictures.

Just took a trip to Johns Car Corner. It was amazing! So many VWs. I got some new floors, wheels, hubcaps(3 NOS), and a collapsible column. It was a great trip and everything was reasonably priced, and he threw in a free t-shirt. Saw some amazing vehicles and a really cool black '67 convertible. It was sitting in a bush and would need a lot of work to restore, but it was really cool to know it exists. I'm gonna be replacing the floors soon and then the channels, but just wanted to throw in this little update.

Okay, I've been working on my seats and I am confused. How do I get this plate off. I don't see any screws just these clip things.

I've known John since the late '80's. Super nice guy and totally devoted to VWs. He and a buddy hosted a fall get-together at his shop, in the field next door at the time, which also included a foliage tour. He had a very rare, all-aluminum bodied Rometsch Lawrence convertible at his shop at the time! It had a battered body with a smashed-in headlight area, paint was stripped, but he sold it on. I'm sure it's been well restored by now.

I still see John at an occasional VW meet in CT like either Harwinton or Terryville.

Good luck with fixing the rust on your '67, and finishing it to get it back on the road.

7.4.67 is 7th of April 1967. Factory stamp as to the production date of the entire pan. Would be within a few days prior to the finish build date of your Beetle.

So I took the extra metal off of the lip today and there is some more that I don't know if it should come off. Here's the extra metal

So do I take the metal off from under the lip. Also here that rear brace that I will be replacing

It was much more rusty than I imagined.

Okay well if they came that way I'll do it. My car was built in April so it's not early and it's not late it's right in the middle. I like it and I already bought red seat covers so I have to do it. Besides I don't exactly like black beetles with the big side windows.

I know I said (and took a poll) that I'd do white with red, but I was looking at the paint charts and looked at zenith blue and I really like it. I'd do a blue vinyl or cloth interior in it. I know I keep going between the different colors but i really can't decide Rolling Eyes . Even if paint is a while out this is tough decision.

I like either of these interiors.

Does anybody know of a place that has the blue cloth? I saw both define and tmi have stuff that's close but not perfect. Also any opinions on the blue.

Been about a week since I've updated on this thread so here's a little update. I'm about to order a napoleons hat from CIP1 as it's cheaper than WW. Also I was grinding paint to put in new fender bolts, and found this...

Shocked it's a half inch of bondo, fiberglass, and undercoating over a rust hole. Now I need to replace that section. Also it was around here.

That's my little update, there's a lot more rust than meets the eye with this car.
