So we've pulled the carb off the 73 Thing.
Seems alot of the vacuum lines are capped. Not chasing that yet.
Watching a rebuild video, it was noted the choke diaphragm had a small spring on it (triangular cover on carb front). Ours, when disassembled, did not have one - Is this necessary? If so, where do I get a replacement?
Also, the 'choke adjustment' system seems to be mounted backwards from other pictures we've seen. Missing a nut it seems, too. Any comments on that?
Other threads indicate these Solex carbs are hard to tune - how true is that?
I will discuss vacuum lines later, unless someone has already mapped them out in another thread.
Also, it seems my rebuild kit has a gasket for the other square four-screw diaphragm. It was not present at diassembly. Is it needed? Which side of the diaphragm should it be on?
Thanks,

A little research in the parts manual shows it's the vacuum diaphragm spring 113 129 225.
Couldn't find one online.
Thanks,

I have a complete spare engine with carb, I could check on any needed parts if you'd like.
As far as capped vacuum lines, this is necessary if the Original dizzy has been replaced by a mechanical advance unit... Also, if the original air cleaner is not there, there will be capped lines that would go to it.
How about a pic of the area that you are missing the spring? Also, what dizzy is on your engine now? _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

I'm afraid I don't know the distributors by number. Engine pic
the spring would live between the cover and diaphragm (longer red line).
Thanks,

Yes there is a nut missing. Be careful tightening it up as it can cause the butterfly to to drag.
