Re: The perforated heater tubes (they look like cheese graters) that run under the back seat from the heater boxes to the rear foot well. (Don't know what they're called, so I'll apologize now for not searching first.) In all the photos I've perused in this forum, none have insulation on them. The ones in my car are wrapped with insulation, held on with zip-ties, which is a clue that they probably aren't original. I generally have a firm grasp of the obvious and think the tubes are perforated for a reason (heated rear seat?). I'm also thinking the insulation wrap was done by a PO to increase the heat into the cabin proper due to the extreme winters around here. Unfortunately for me, fortunately for the critters, they provided a cozy place for mice, which is why I'm taking the insulation off. Curious if anyone wrapped the tubes in their cars, or knows if they were wrapped from the factory, pros, cons, etc. I'm not worried about originality, mainly functionality. |

The insulation with zip ties is from the factory. It should look like this (ignore the arrow, I stole this from the gallery).

The insulation was, I believe, a means to suppress noise.

early ones were not perforated just the later so they are original. can't remember the year but probably 68

OK, thanks! Zip ties on mine are a newer style so I assumed the insulation was a newer addition, didn't consider original insulation with newer ties, although my insulation isn't as "finished" on the edges as the one in the photo. That's one thing I like about this hobby (affliction?), learn something new just about every day! |
