Anyone in SW MI Benton Harbor / St Joseph? (Vanagon and sailing content)
Ever consider how much traveling in a Westy is like traveling in a sailboat? Size, amenities, stuff to always fix or upgrade, (and in my case, similar early 80s colors, style, and dιcor)
Drove my Westy from NM as the start of the current adventure to sail around and across Lake Michigan https://andrewvanis.wordpress.com/ . I was wondering
.
1 At minimum Id like to see if there are other Vangon minded folks in that area to meet and hang out.
2 It would be great to find a place to keep my Westy while on the Lake Michigan sailing tour about 1.5-2 weeks. Could also use a driveway to stay in overnight while I went elsewhere during the day to prep the boat.
3 It would be awesome if you had a plot of land in the Benton Harbor area where I could bring the boat for a few days while I get it sea worthy. I think I'll be spending some time and money at Wolf's Marine....
Of course Ill be available to hang and talk Vanagon and we can take the sailboat out for day sails before and after the tour, and (if you have interest in sailing and it looks like wed get along for a couple weeks) there is room for the Lake MI tour.

I think all the time how much our Westy is like a sailboat, which is part of the reason I like it so much.
I am over in Chicago but I am frequently in BH/SJ on my way up and down the coast (and because the Livery is there and it's one of my fav breweries on earth). In fact, the surf shop (Third Coast Surf) there is having their annual luau this saturday and I might drive over for that and possibly some waves on sunday. Come out and visit! The owner has an absolutely gorgeous orange T2 camper.
Sorry I can't help with #s 2 and 3. _________________ I'm Joe

Our Westy always reminds us of our old MacGregor 22' pop top sailboat we used to have. It was the "Westy" of the water!
We just did a road trip to northern Michigan last weekend, and I had the bug to sail the lake! I did get a chance to surf tho. It's beautiful up that way!
Congrats on your adventure! Sorry I can't help with anything.

I got room..... Come on by.
Also, did get set up at a marina. They let me work on there boat and camp next to it and park my westy and trailer while on the tour. Very reasonable cost too. _________________ 83.5 Westy with Subaru 2.5, 4 spd manual, center seat, COLD A/C on 134a!, Winter camp heated with an Espar B4 gasoline furnace
