Hello,
Does anybody know if 195 65 R 15 tires will fit stock rims in the rear on a stock height 1972 type 3?

Thanks a lot.

There are several tire calculators on the web that will tell you the dimensions of the desired tire. You can compare to your current size in the same calculator and use some measuring device to determine if you have clearance enough.
I will say that a 205 65 15 will fit on my 65 t3. So I am going to say yes they'll fit.

Thanks Nate, I like how they came out. They were pretty discolored due to poor storage so that's why I went with the dark powder. If I run spacers I could use the OG style center caps in the rear but with the size of type 3 axle nuts I had to use those. Not horrible looking but not as clean as the OG ones IMO

I am working on a set of Pedrini's currently which I will go light silver powder with a clear coat & plan to have the lugs silver cad plated so they look more like the OG Porsche lugs (which are far too costly for me when I can get these at 1/3 the price)

The Key word here is "Stock Rims" which are 4 1/2" and 195/65/15 are recommended spec at 5 1/2" to 7" Rim.
No, they are recommended for 4 1/2" rims.

Do you mean to say they are NOT recommended for a 4 1/2" rim width?

When I posted my initial question I was worried more about rubbing with other components of the car such as the fender, the shcok absorber and so on, not so much about if the 195 65 R 15 tire is "compatible" with the rim. Yes, it is true that a 195 tire is recommended to be installed on a wider rim, but it will also work with the stock type 3 rims.
I have used such tires on the rear of my 1965 Type 1 for many years with no issues whatsoever.

Now I want to ask another question though:

Will said tires (195 65 R15) also work (as in tot rub against anything) installed on stock rims in the front of a 1972 stock height Type 3 ?

Thanks.
