What have any of you used this space for (other than dual oil baths) ? I was thinking about relocating my battery there or maybe store some spare parts, but I'm open to better ideas...

You can store your military wheel chock in that space.

And now for something completely different...
That's where my oil filter, oil thermostat, control pressure regulator and CD ignition box are mounted.

Looks like a great place for an air conditioning condenser coil and fan.

Why not fold the windshield down and remove the side curtains?

Mondshine: that's one hell of an engine!
Al capulco: good idea...only wish I had one of these military wheel chocks! The cheap plastic ones from Auto Zone that I have would probably melt back there.

Type 82's had a little toolbox in the engine bay (ya I know it was on the other side). I was always going to make one, but it's still on my to do list. I have used that bracket as a ground when I static timed my car.

ZK-
It seems to me that the battery makes a mess of the engine compartment in most Ghia's I've looked at. The stock location of the battery couldn't be much closer to the starter, which is a good thing. I'd keep the battery where it is.

My MSD coil is located in that space. The extra space makes it really handy to access the intake nuts on dual carbs Laughing

That sounds like a great idea. Do you have a picture or any other information about this tool box?

Zylinderkopf

Well, there were 2 types. One was early and one was later... one was wood and sort of built to conform to the space. Reminds me of a little coffin. The other was just a fairly narrow metal box. I think that one mounted sort of up n down instead of flat. http://www.kdf.cz is a website that will have pictures of both. Look in the parts catalog. You can get the website to change to English in case you don't speak Czech Very Happy

Joe 20:

wow - very interesting catalog. I'm shocked at how many parts - including body panels are available for the original Kübelwagen! Good source - thanks!
