I have a used transmission (in good working order) from a 1974 standard beetle. Does it have any value? Is it worth trying to sell it, or should I just take it to the scrap yard? |

I take it you're not an ACVW person.
If it's in working order, you should be able to get a least a hundred (or more) for it.
The only problem will be: Nobody will want to pay shipping costs.
Look around for local VW clubs, or advertise on your local CL. Specify "Local pick-up" in the ad.
Scrapping it would be a sin. _________________ Everything known to man has been written.

Welcome to The Samba
It's worth $30 to a scrap yard. You could sell it for maybe $100 as a good used transaxle. The '74 has the desirable 3.88 R&P gear, stronger 3.78 mainshafts and 10 tooth spider gears. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

It seems rather ridiculous to throw away a good transmission. Remember new ACVW parts are no longer being made. _________________ 1972 Coupe |

The trouble will be the price. Without it installed in a car it only has value as a core for rebuilding. Anything more is a gamble by the buyer, and many will not want to take that gamble.
But someone local should be able to make it worth even a bit more than its value to a scrapyard. |

You can ship it greyhound for about $80, I've sold many through samba,CL, and local want ad papers. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

When I've been given these before- I've always handed the guy a $50. Around here that's a baseline value for something heavy and greasy- but rebuildable. _________________
