The bug from hell strikes again, just about everything that can go wrong has. After replacing the clutch and exhaust I've been daily driving it for the last week.
It started to sound louder I thought a day or so ago, it always kinda rapped a little while cold but this seemed worse.
Anyhow, tonight driving home after pulling out from a stop light I saw smoke. Then driving in stop and go traffic it was really coming out under load. It was bluish and I could smell the oil.
Time to pull the engine and check the rings and valve guided? Is the rapping related? The PO had the engine 'rebuilt' however PO had no clue and made it the bug from hell. |

Can you describe the rapping? If it's gangsta, the smoking is probably related. _________________ Kenneth

I had a sp1600 that smoked too much, but seemed to run well otherwise. At idle, blue cloud out the exhaust. I pulled the plugs, and found that #4 was wet/ oily. Pulled the head on that side, and saw a couple of score marks on the cylinder wall. Pulled the cylinder off and found that the wrist pin clip had come out of place and the pin was pushing it up against the cylinder wall. I replaced that cylinder, put it all back together, and am still using the engine. So, that being said, a quick check of the plugs may reveal where your problem lies. _________________ I will never lie, but sometimes the truth changes.

so I took a closer look, and the oil isn't coming out of the exhaust, instead its pooling in the pulley tin and then spewing on to the exhaust.
I cannot tell where the oil leak is coming from, but I suspect blow by and/or oil pump is leaking. |
