I have a couple Allstate single wheel trailers and have thought about the Syncro pulling one. What is nice is you cannot "jackknife" one and my wife has no issues backing up a single wheel trailer
Here is a photo of my old wooden Allstate.

I have this run away trailer... Pulls great , has AC , my wife and i fit in there comfortably while the kids kick it in the van when camping.
here are some pics
I got this last fall. Since I have added new springs to the van and a 3 in drop hitch which leveled it all out.
I also added a carrier to the top of the trailer for bikes and such.... _________________ 87 Syncro Westy

Thats pretty cool. That looks alot earlier than the one Ive been seeing. It has a metal box around the perimeter reminiscent of an early tent trailer. Now that I was gonna get a pic it has moved! Been there for years. Im not sure about it being behind my syncro either. Couldn't put a wheeler on it. |

Just got back from a weekend towing this Hobie 18 and custom trailer (modified boat trailer)....16.5 mpg towing at around 60mph over 190 miles, with the family and camping gear on board.
It's noticeably more work to tow than the typical setup I posted earlier. Oil temps up to 110C, and noticeably lower mileage. On the same run (kayaks up top for half the trip) Road Trip (my favorite mileage/maintenance iOS app) reported 22mpg with no trailer attached. _________________ Cheers,

Glad to see you're able to pull loads like that, denwood. I'm on my way to swapping the 1.8 block currently in my van with a 2.0 bubble block, and it's nice to know it'll be able to handle taking like what you've shown. _________________ 1995 Eurovan Camper 5SPD

vdub, this is the app: http://darrensoft.ca/roadtrip/
Doesn't look like an Android port
TT, a few things have likely contributed to some longevity with the i4 swap and a fair bit of towing.
1. Auto trans cooler replaced with air/oil from FAS.
2. Oil cooler replaced with Mocal air/oil in fender
3. Oil pan windage tray (essential if you're using the 50 degree/diesel setup)
4. As of a few weeks ago, a new oil pump with a properly clearanced (.002") new diesel pickup tube. I'm able to run 5w30 synthetic now with oil pressure about 2 bar/1000rpm, a bit less towing the cat above with oil temps in the 110C to 115C range.
5. Lowered compression from 10.5:1 with a knock sensor.
6. Techtonics digifant chip/knock sensor bushing (installed last year)
The i4setup with larger 2.1 pistons in the 3A block is good for ~ 140-145 HP. I really like the fact that the 3A block/digifant head has piston squirters, knock sensing and in our case, slightly lowered compression. When towing the cat, I generally fill up with 92 octane, 87 otherwise.
We're about 10 years in now with no engine issues..the oil pump should have been clearanced properly from the get go..and was not. Big difference there as evidenced by last weekend's tow, hot weather, and the 5w30 run for the first time. I had towed the same cat about 320km pre conversion..and it was painful. _________________ Cheers,

Thanks Denwood! I emailed him to find out if there is an Android version, but doesn't look like it. Too bad ~ looks very useful and well executed. _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

How about a Wesfalia to tow behind your Westfalia? $2,910 seems pretty reasonable. Although you would have to be pretty short to use the inside for anything other than cargo transport.

I don't know who made it but my trailer rocks. I've installed a double bike rack to the back of it and the tow behind double bike trailer for my kids folds flat and is attached to the lid with a spider bungy. I actually thought it was home made with a car carrier lid until I met another vanagon with the identicle rig. It's all steel sides on a steel chasis. It weighs almost nothing and holds our Coleman, folding picnic table, chairs, firewood, beer cooler, kids toys, etc, etc. It's great having the floor of the Vanagon completely clear when we're on the road.

That looks a bit like a motorcycle trailer to me. _________________ Terry

Those with the smallish trailers like the Harbor Freight kind or the motorcycle trailers. How
do they travel? Can you do highway speeds with them attached? |
I looked at HF when I needed something to tow a motorcycle and it seems to me I had to pass on account of the low speed rating on either the tires or the axle. I bought an Aluma M/C trailer. I'd check the speed rating of the tires. _________________ Terry

Did someone build a single swivel wheel trailer for vw? I'll have to get a pic but I've seen on in a yard that may be about 4x6ft with a single swiveling wheel and two small tongues on front. Then it has a big vw emblem on the back.
I did a search online and found that sears (I think ) made something like it. |
Nice job. _________________ Terry
