Very rare.
Yes, I have seen one. It was not for sale.
As they are so rare, you cannot get a 'usual price' on one. It'll be between you and the seller.
The later ones are regularly in the classifieds for ~$75 to $200. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

To say the truth I did not know for what car it was designed for, although i already have one on my 51 split bug, so yesterday I made a search for steering lock and I found a pic. showing a lock like I have.
Looks like it was a great find for me than!!!!!!!
Although the paint is scratched, dirty and the keys a bit rusty the lock is NOS however, I have the plastic cover (wire and fuse cover) missing so if anyone would know how to get one please let me know
Thanks again for your response
Alex
attached one can see the NOS steering lock photos i have

I got one in Poland for 28 zlotyes? ($5 American dollars?) It needs work! Lots of it. But its a cool part to have. I bet the BARNDOOR KING has one or two?
At the last Bad Camberg I attended, I did see a few of those items for sale but they are only available to TRUST FUND KIDS! You know what I mean, Right? And I know someone who actually has two NOS of these BD locking mechanisms.........but this FAT ASS kid doesn't sell anything! This same hairy Chewbacca kid has those super rare in the box NOS BD gas gauge & sending units. I will see if I can swap a few pictures of the stuff in exchange for a cheeseburger?
As far as what they are worth...........BIG MONEY! Now a days people are willing to pay crazy prices for them.
I also got a tip from my Polish connection that there are lots of early parts in Malta! PORCO DIO!!!
I'd buy from you if your interested in selling it?? |

As regards early VW parts in Malta i think yes there where but not any more since some german and english guy bought the whole lot
the parts i have i bought them from all over the world
i was lucky once in buying a petri steering wheel but that was an exception i guess
as regards to the barndoor steering lock i also have 2 1 in my 51 split and the other one NOS (without box)
thanks for your reply
it was nice to write to you
p.s. if you manage to get a picture of the BD gauge send it to me so i see how this was as you never know what i have............
thanks again
Alex

Wow,
That dehne gauge looks really cool the cable must be really long to reach the tank.
What i have that can be used in a barndoor as a fuel gauge is a drager since the air suction pipe can be as long as much as you want.
Infect they use to advertise a type 2 and a type 1 on the drager box
these are my dehne good for type 1 split or oval
This is the drager gauge marked august 54

It mounts above the drivers head (LHD) and runs down the inner driprail and drops down into the engine compartment on the side of the bus. It fits pre-55 busses perfectly and the sending unit can be modified slightly to fit in a '55-'61 bus. |
