Ah-ha! I simply removed my springs and made a shim pack of washers on the bolt in order to accommodate the 195/70-15 spare.

Good to know. And I'd think that the 205/65/15 at [edit: tirerack spec] 25.4" OD could be accommodated in a similar manner using shell with shorter tang. As noted in another thread, drilling a hole in middle of shell and installing a bolt type hold down would be easy to do. Or even a strap.

Neil.

Not sure about GW or SA wheels, but I like the proper offset of the Mefros.

I bought my 16" set of 5 used, but they were barely touched by the PO.

Heavy - 23# ea (but I assume quite burley)
Stock argent silver did start flaking off one of the wheels in short order, without hitting anything or any other assignable cause. The other 4 wheels were fine (and more difficult to remove paint from as well)

I knew going in that the paint was potentially poor, so no surprise.

I blasted them all in my friends media blaster and coated them with BMW Space Gray and a catalyzed clear coat. They are bomber now (and look sweet too)

I'd say so!!! Thank you for posting the photos - my van is yellow, and seeing yours just makes me want them even more! What size tire is that in the picture?

I know your van is a Syncro, so that means no spacers?

Another option I've done was get the steroids off the Tiguan. They are 16"s with 215/65/16 tires. I've had them on now for several months with no issues.

Thanks for those images and type of paint used. I prefer to have a less "bling" appearance to my Westy. NOT saying your wheels look bad! Wink They look great but to my eye, they appear somewhat understated compared to the "silver" look.

I sell 16" steel wheels from VW made for the Tiguan, 16x6 1/2 ET30, machined centers, Mefro caps, hardware too. The finish stays better than any other painted steel wheel I've used.

Online I found "16x6.5 Volkswagen Beetle Steel Wheel /Rim" from RoadReady for only $65 each instead of VC's costing $146. Are these similar to the So African steelies and will they work on my '90 2WD Westy?

Your lug pattern is 5 x 112 mm. I don't think the Beetle rims have the same pattern.

Below are relative to 2WD

Mercedes steel wheels are an option
P/N: 203 400 1602
Size: 16 x 7"
ET: 31

Spacers Required?:
205 and smaller - No
215 - maybe, depends on tire
225 and larger - yes

I have 215's and spacers, but I never checked fit to see if needed. I had the spacers already

New Hardware Required? - Yes:
M14-1.5 with a R12 (17mm) radius.
Length of front lugs are dependent on spacer thickness
Rears are nuts

Any wheel machining required?
Center: No
Wheel bolt/lug holes: No

Color: Black

Cost: $69-72 @ your MB Dealer (2019)

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...p;start=20

Note, Tiguan rims are an option.
Note all info below harvested from TheSamba, not direct experience, therefore verify

P/N: 5NO 601 027B 091
Size: 16 x 6.5"
ET: 33

Spacers Required?:
Not in all cases- investigate

New Hardware Required? -
I don't know

Any wheel machining required?
Center: Yes
Wheel bolt/lug holes: No

Color: Silver

Cost: ?

I think the Tiguan ones might look a bit better and are silver already which most would consider better looking than black.

MB
Pros: No machining!
Cons: Black

Tigaun
Pros: Nice silver finish
Cons: Machining (cost)
