Just picked up my 58 case after having it "Vapor Blasted". This method uses water along with a very fine "flour like" media. I thought it would make a good alternative to the more expensive Dow treatments being used. The case comes out very silver in color. Not sure what a new engine from VW looked like, but I am satisfied with the finish I received.

That looks very good. How did you source someone to do this?

I keep it nice by keeping it on the shelf for now. I will have to ask they guy who cleaned it for advice on keeping it looking nice. I was actually looking at a BMW motorcycle and in touring the bike owners shop he showed me his two Blast cabinets and also showed me several examples of the quality of cleaning the Vapor machines would do. |

I suppose he'll tell you to not put oil inside it. LOL It will look quite nice fully assembled. Almost a shame to hide it fully dressed and installed in a car. |

This is the advice I got from the person who blasted the case:
" I use that spray oil from WalMart. Wet the case with it and then dry it with a lint free cloth some, rubbing it in as you go. then allow it to dry naturally.
It says "spray lubricant" on the can and costs 1.97 or so".

Might be able to look in the yellow pages... or.... here's a Samba classified ad for Vapor blasting services

It won't stay that way all by itself... but, see this ad by Mr. Okrasa for a chemical treatment.
