Well I did the thing with the jack, a few popped, but most stayed strong. I had some 22 gauge that I tested welding together and it looked horrendous, I really need a gas machine.

Yes I looked at the thread, what settings were you using? Mine even at like 2 and low is making holes and looking bad I'll post a picture of my tests on 22 gauge soon.

Here's the 22 gauge. The settings ranged from .5-3.

The weld in the top pic all the way up and in the center is all the way down in the center in the bottom pic.

I highly doubt that you are getting that "frying bacon sound" or the sound of a correct arc sound.
It looks like the wire is melting off in globs. A wire welder sets the arc length for you but the STICK OUT has to be maintained which is the distance the contact tip is from the metal. 1/2 inch is a lot and it's nearly impossible to choke out a wire welder arc so 1/4 - 3/8ths is good with maybe 1/8th inch as close as you should go. You have to be careful not to short out the contact tip while flux welding if using a flux nozzle or no nozzle. The shorter the stick out the more control you will have over the weld pool.

Usually if anything excessive STICK OUT is the problem.
Flux core uses spray transfer as far as I know but you should still only see small to tiny globs going into the weld pool and not a big glob being dropped from the wire into the pool. You should not be dropping off a glob that is the size of the weld pool.

If your still melting off pool sized globs with the correct stick out ,your wire speed is too slow but I don't think that is the issue.You should probably set up on 16 gauge steel and get good at that first because it is harder to set up on thin stuff. You should be able to do a continuous bead with 16 gauge.

I don't have an old test piece handy but it should be impossible not to get some sag on the opposite side of the steel you are welding if it's thin.

I've got some 16 somewhere, and that's my problem, I have at least a half inch out of the gun at all times, guess I'll work on that tomorrow.

stay away from WW pans. i installed their floor pans on both my 72 and 68. both sets had very poor fit requiring more cutting and welding than others i have done. not to mention the shipping damage. pans thinner than i expected as well. one more WW part to avoid...

Interesting, that's the first I've heard of that. I've heard the best reviews are from people who use WW pans.

Yes, I usually do have to trim WW pans. It takes about 15 minutes per side to mark and then trim with a metal cutting disc on a 4" grinder. And I like the fact the crossbraces are not attached ... the originals on the car are better than the replacements so I like to keep them when possible. More work, yes, but it makes for a better job overall.

I used WW cross braces as mine were rotted. They were good, not as sturdy as the originals, but they're good.

I've talked to the master series guys at the Stafford swap meet. I've got to weld the pans more and remove sealer because some of the welds popped and I'm just annoyed with them. This bug will be back together for April though. Not painted and perfect but one piece once more.

I'm so stupid.... in the process of re-replacing the rear cross brace, I have messed up the back of the pan enough that i don't think i can fix it. I think I'm going to get a half pan and weld it in. Any advice? The pan right now is super distorted on the part the channels bolt to so it won't sit on the cross brace.
