I am looking for some opinions on gear ratios for my 1963 Manx Clone
that is running a stock ratio swing axis now with 31x10.5x15 rear tires
and is geared way to high for most of my off-road type driving. Power
is not a problem, I have a 2110 in it now and plan on putting my 2332
in it shortly. The car hardly ever see any real highway driving so the final
ratio could be fairly low. My main concern is I want the first 3 gears to
be close enough so that I do not lug to much between shifts in the deep
or rough stuff, Any off-road tranny idea would be greatly appreciated, I
am more of the engine man myself. |

Contact the trans companies for gear ratios. they are the best suited to answer this question. _________________ MB Products 4 seat beam chassis - 091 trans, 2332 VW |

Yea you would definitely want a close ratio 3rd and 4th
with maybe a nice 4.37 ring and pinion. Maybe stock 1st
and 2nd, then a 1.65 third going into a 1.32 4th ?
Or you could go with a larger ring and pinion and taller
3rd and 4th. I had a 4.37 type 1 with a 1.65 3rd into
a 1.04 4th on my Baja. What a difference a close ratio
from 2nd into 3rd makes !
Here's a couple places that have some listings.

have you though about a bus tranny with reduction boxes? I hear they go pretty gosh darn slow. Just a thought but I might have no idea what i'm talking about. |

I'm running a gear redux set up. Unless you need the height I wouldn't run one in a buggy. With the way Trans companies can modify gearing there really isn't a need. Just change the R&P to a lower gearing on a stock trans and it should cover it. _________________ CU05 w/HBB
