I also would cut and paste the dimple in. Drill the spot welds and pull the inner fill section out. Then cut and weld in the finger indent. Much quicker and once ground in and the fuel plumbing is back in it will look good as new.
It will be correct. As correct as replacing the entire panel. Both are modifications to the same visual end.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm going to take finefettles idea and cut and paste. I'm going to find a donor panel and we cut out the relevant section.

Answering a previous question about whether my dad fixed it. He may have had an accident he didn't tell anyone about. It's the only way the wrong panel was fitted.
