I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my bus due to all the rust holes in the cargo floor. I have two ideas: Either make it out of luan and put a plexiglass window in it, or sew one up out of fabric and then make a window out of a shower curtain or some other strong, but flexible, clear plastic. If I make it out of wood it would look a lot nicer, but be harder to mount. If I make a fabric one I could put velcro or snaps in the bus to mount it with and take it out in like a minute. I am leaning toward the wood option though, as it would look a lot better...Plus I would hardly ever need to take it out until the weather got warmer, so that is not a big deal to me. |
I have a third idea. Fix the holes in the floor. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

I'd make the whole thing out of a clear shower curtain. for visability. Hang it with rare earth magnets.
I do like the idea of a solid divider being quieter though. _________________ Judy

Sounds great! I'll pm you a list of metal I need and my shipping address
Otherwise the metal work will be waiting til next winter...I need to replace my center pin as well as a few other odds and ends before I start back doing body work to it. _________________ 1967 13 Window Deluxe

Here's the divider that came in my bus (ambulance divider). Since I had my bus repainted I had to remove the frame and the channel felt simply crumbled when I took it out. Now I'm trying to piece together channel felt to put back in .
The dividers Clara sells are neat and easy to remove if you want to go back full view back there.
There a few other buses I've seen with this divider. |
Rob please be sure to update the M529 thread during this process.
I am excited about cruising a bus with a divider for the noise reduction. I hope its as quiet as a single cab. _________________ Paulie

I am working on a cab divider for my bus currently, but I will still have to upload the pics. I am mounting a sliding side window from a Vanagon westy in it. It is almost the same size as a ambulance divider, so visibility should not be an issue.... _________________ 1967 13 Window Deluxe

Maybe he would send you some pics detailing the headliner / partition fitment.
If he does... maybe post them in this thread, so the rare view of a partitioned deluxe don't evaporate when the classified is taken down.

maybe you can also borrow the belly pans, since he is not using them right now? _________________ regards

Heh... nice observation
Makes me suspect of the partition... |
Agreed. With a bus with such an odd comination he should have a birth cirtificate as one of the pictures in the add. _________________ Paulie

It's sort of a weird combination if you are used to the later Buses. |

On the '57 Deluxe we are talking about?
I think it looks goofy because of the grab handle.
The grab handle was not a factory installation on 57s and that one was not installed centered over the clock like others I have seen.

1974, Alaska, friggin cold in the winter. Simple frame of 1x2's covered with carpet and insulation. From barely survivable to nicely workable. Still had to scrape the inside of the windshield. Best backwoods rabbit hunting vehicle ever. A few of your best friends and loaded weapons on four wheel drive trails in 2 feet of snow. _________________ 63 15 window deluxe Turkis walk through 1500

I finally uploaded some pics to the gallery. Here is how my divider turned out. I have used it in the bus for the past couple years, but it started rattling and I took it back out this fall. I never finished cutting the top out so it could screw to the air box cover holes, and it finally worked it's way loose at the top. The Vanagon sliding windows were the perfect size though, no visibility problems whatsoever. Plus you can open it up if you want to...
