I purchased this '78 SB almost a year ago and I am about ready to address the only rust on the car. I am amazed actually with how solid this car is for the money I spent on it.
The convertible top needs replaced, and I can't do that without addressing the issue with the U channel and rust below it:

I ordered a new channel today from Chuck's and he told me this piece is spot welded in.

I can see the dimples from the spot welds, but I am trying to figure out how to get to them. The angle across the back channel won't allow me to attack it straight on. I want to do the prep work and find someone to do the welding.
I can do mechanical, but body work is new to me. I can sand and prep, but no 220 in the garage so buying a welder is out.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
