This is what I did to deal with rusted areas on the back wheel wells. Not to everyone's liking, but it worked.

Ever since I saw the first one of those big-n-little rim-tire customs I kinda secretly liked the look. I knew it was making the gear ratio high, canting out the stub axle bearings, tipping the driver forward, worked better on a Detroit Van, but they still look badass and seemed like a babe magnet. You had to have the torn off shorts to go with it, though, or you were just a poser. |

True all that!
I still have some ragged, cutoff Levi shorts somewhere....but probably wouldn't get the same reaction!!
You just have to watch the weight you run with the wider rims/tires. Other than that, it doesn't seem to bother it. Just couldn't afford the cost of restoring the body/wheel wells to stock. I should have been a welder!! _________________ SLOW RIDE........TAKE IT EASY!!!

Got this '67 Kombi from the original owner. It is finally freed from its tarp-wraps after 20 years. The original owner said he had the dealer's body shop cut the wheelwells "tastefully" and add scoops. I think I even have a receipt in the pile of provenance.

Found it; he actually waited two years before adding the scoops.
Eleven years 100,000 miles later he had the bus painted but loved the scoops so much he refused having the scoops' holes filled. The scoops went back on.

Fell victim. Stripping off four layers of paint then will proceed to weld in the lower rockers and wheel wells. I swear man....

Damn that's a sweet bus! I don't know, the Centerlines with slicks are kind of dope. Looks like they used a P-38 (can opener) to cut the wheel wells though.. _________________ Brandon |

I've always said that cut wheel wells are to be fixed or "filled" with big phat tires! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |
